Ducking out of some unexpected wet weather, this crafty squirrel stayed dry by hiding under an umbrella.

The cute moment was artfully set up by photographer Max Ellis, from south west London.

Max, 52, tempted the squirrel by hanging the brolly on some stealth fishing line in his garden, before coating it in sunflower seeds and peanut butter.

It took just minutes for the curious critter to become interested and start investigating his creation.

Max said: ‘Squirrels aren’t usually keen on rain.

‘I considered building a covered walkway from their tree because I was getting cramp crouching behind the camera.

‘Fortunately this one popped out and hung around exploring for about six minutes.

‘As the rain got heavier he was able to shelter for a bit but eventually gave up and headed off home.

‘After that we didn’t see another squirrel all day – sensible creatures.’
