Craig Revel Horwood has his sights set on the Christmas number one spot as he prepares to release a festive single.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge will unveil duet It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas! with Strictly tour singer Rietta Austin this week.

Horwood told The Mirror his "catchy" track — described as an "upbeat jive" — will definitely eclipse the competition for the coveted chart spot.

"Ed Sheeran and Elton John have no chance next to my single. It’s going to be a number one," he said.

Horwood added: “It’s something people can dance to, and we all want a bit of cheering up this Christmas.

“I think it will be judged as out of character for Craig Revel Horwood from the TV. But I’m a trained singer and performer, which people forget. If they don’t like it, they can lump it.”

Horwood turned his critical eye on Cliff Richard's famed Christmas hit Mistletoe & Wine, saying it is "dirge" compared to his Jersey Boys inspired track, co-written with West End performer Nik Page.

He will now compete against numerous other contenders for this year's festive number one spot, including Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John's A-list duet.

Sheeran and Sir Elton are the current bookies' favourites to top the charts on Christmas Day, though there are other major contenders, including Adele and Abba.

LadBaby ranks in second place on the current odds list, with the social media sensation currently on a run of three successive Christmas number ones.

The online comedian — whose real name is Mark Ian Hoyle — is yet to announce whether he will perform another sausage roll-inspired track this year.

"Never rule out a sausage roll at Christmas is what I would say," LadBaby told Metro earlier this month.

He added: "If we can find a way to raise more money for the Trussell Trust this year and if we can find a way to make it bigger and compete against such megastars, then you never know."
