Craig Revel Horwood reveals dismay he can't visit nudist camps due to Strictly fame

Fame comes at quite a cost - just ask Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood who has shared his dismay at being unable to visit a nudist camp due to people knowing who he is.

The 55-year-old dancer and choreographer says he has been paying for his fame since landing a job on the flagship BBC dancing show way back in 2004.

He said being recognised means you “can’t do what you want” in public as fame results in losing “your sense of freedom”.

Speaking to presenter Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, Revel Horwood spoke of the downfalls of being on a popular TV show.

He said: “I started paying for fame from the very next day that I went out on the street. There were people literally recognising me, I was like, 'My god, I'm being recognised.'

"They were truck drivers screaming numbers at me out of trucks and people at bus stops all staring at me and then shouting things like, 'Seven!' Or whatever. I came home and went, 'Oh my god I'm being recognised,' and this is only after one episode of Strictly back in May 2004.

"The cost of celebrity, I think, is enormous. You give up your anonymity and that is really important to a lot of people.”

He went on to discuss the things national fame has stopped him from doing.

“The thing I dislike the most is the fact you can't do what you want to do in public,” he said.

"I couldn't go to a nudist camp for instance, or if I did it would have to be completely inside somewhere. Then everyone would have to sign an NDA. You lose your sense of freedom in a way.

"I have to say, I felt I became aggressive in the beginning because I wasn't used to it.

"I was scared of total strangers coming up to me and I found that weird. I would end up saying 'do I know you?' There have been funny times and I've learnt to live and deal with it."
