Craig Revel Horwood has confirmed there are “contingency plans” in place for Strictly Come Dancing to go ahead despite the coronavirus.

The judge on the BBC dance show is confident the series will be able to go ahead if social distancing rules remain in place.

Revel Horwood, 55, told ITV’s Lorraine: ."There's a contingency plan in place with the producers to bring it to
the nation and of course it is such a wonderful show, such a happy show, everyone knows it's the lead up to Christmas.

“People want to feel good about themselves and what better way of doing that then dancing, so yeah we are keeping our fingers crossed."

The dancer and choreographer pointed out that not all dances require couples to be in close quarters, adding that there are "all sorts of ways you can get around the coronavirus thing".

He added that he is "pretty much on board" that the series is going to happen.

Strictly - which sees celebrities compete with professional dancers for the public vote - usually begins filming in September and is recorded in front of a live audience.

BBC’s Controller of Programming Dan McGolpin said they are keeping “fingers crossed” the show will be aired.

The Strictly star lives in Hampshire with Myring, 35, but also has family in Australia, where Myring proposed.

Revel Horwood said: “We want to actually have it here. Lockdown has been really good for both of us because we’re looking out on the garden saying, ‘What can we do to create a really fantastic wedding venue?’ And that’s sort of what we’re working on.

“So it’s been brilliant to actually get out in the garden, decide a few things, thinking how many people can we fit in the forest for a sit down meal, all that stuff. It’s been really great. At least I’ve had something wonderful to do during this lockdown.”
