Craigmore Road fire: NIFRS believe Coleraine blaze caused by 'accidental ignition'
A large fire at a Co Derry recycling plant is believed to have been caused by 'accidental ignition'.
On Friday, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were called to a blaze at RiverRidge's recycling facility in the Craigmore Road area of Coleraine.
Over 80 firefighters and personnel tackled the blaze through the early hours of January 17 along with 8 pumping appliances, 2 aerial appliances, 2 water tankers and a command support unit.

The NIFRS has confirmed the blaze has been fully brought under control and extinguished and thanked the public for their patience while attending the incident.
A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: "A large fire at a commercial premises on Craigmore Road in Coleraine has been dealt with. The initial call was received at 2.13am on Friday 17 January 2025.
“Our Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the duration of the incident to ensure that the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
“At the height of the incident over 80 Firefighters and personnel were involved in the operational response.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident. There were no injuries and the roads in the area were closed to traffic.
“The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 10.30am."
In a statement on Fridat, RiverRidge CEO, Brett Ross said: "The fire will be the subject of an immediate and thorough investigation and both the Health and Safety Executive and Northern Ireland Environment Agency have been notified.
"Contingency plans for the company have been enacted and we have alerted key customers to assure them of our ongoing services. The collection of waste is ongoing, although there will be some disruption/delays to the likes of our skip services.
"I would like to thank the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service for their immediate response and support and apologise for any inconvenience caused to our neighbours. No one has been injured during the incident.”
