Lead singer of The Cranberries Dolores O'Riordan was laid to rest in her hometown of Ballybricken in County Limerick earlier today (January 23).

Iconic singer-songwriter O'Riordan passed away unexpectedly last week in a hotel in London, although police have since confirmed her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Family, friends and crowds of fans gathered in Ireland earlier today to attend O'Riordan's funeral mass, which was followed by a private burial.

Remembering the singer, Canon Liam McNamara (who led the service at St Ailbe's Church) paid tribute to her wide-reaching impact as a musician, telling those present that "the numbers she rescued from the darkness of depression are impossible to count" (via the BBC).

McNamara went on to say that O'Riordan had "reached out to the world" and had "a unique respect for everyone", before praising her "excellent performance" in the "gig of life".

When news broke of Dolores' shock death last week, tributes from across the music world began to pour in for the artist – including from her own bandmates.

"We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores," said The Cranberries' Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler.

"She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today."

The Cranberries formed in 1989, and are best-known for their hits 'Linger', 'Zombie', 'Dreams' and 'Ode to My Family'. They split in 2003 to pursue solo careers before reuniting in 2009.

An inquest into O'Riordan's death, held at London's Westminster Coroner's Court, has been adjourned until later this year while the coroner awaits test results.
