Creepy moment man walks into West Lothian family home in middle of the night

A West Lothian family was left "shaken" after an unknown intruder entered their home after dark.

The incident took place around 4am on Saturday, January 25 on Letham Place in Pumpherston.

Police Scotland has since said the man was traced and no criminality was established.

After opening the latch on the front gate, he walks right up to the front stoop.

He can be seen peering through a window before entering through the unlocked front door.

Dion Johnston, who lives at the property, said she normally always keeps the door locked, but had recently taken ill and must have forgotten to check.

The video shows the man enter the home for a few moments before retreating at a slightly faster pace than when he arrived, leaving the door open behind him.

Dion says she woke up in the morning to the door ajar, prompting her to look at their CCTV footage.

Her mother went to the toilet around the time the man entered the house, and she suspects "he must have heard her and ran out".

Dion told Edinburgh Live: "He came in completely to my house.

"It scared us knowing someone came into our home, your home it meant to be your safe space and that was violated."

Dion said the encounter left her family "shaken".

She said she later followed the man's footprints in the snow and claims they led to other doors along Letham Place.

She suspects that he tried other doors, though the footage only captures him entering her own home.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

“About 5.10am on Saturday, 25 January, 2025 we were called to a report of a man acting suspiciously in Letham Place, Livingston.

“Officers attended and the man was traced. There was no criminality established.”
