All cremations cancelled at Leeds crematorium after 'structural problems'
Cremations have been temporarily halted at a city funeral facility due to structural issues discovered in the building.
Leeds City Council has assured that ceremonies can still proceed as usual at Lawnswood Crematorium in Adel. The deceased are being transported to other crematoria in the city, either Rawdon or Cottingley, following the ceremony, with ashes being returned to Lawnswood for collection.
A spokesperson for the council stated that funeral directors have been informed about these temporary measures. They explained: "After a routine structural survey of the building, we have unfortunately had to suspend all cremations at Lawnswood Crematorium to further look into some potential issues found.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this causes at an already difficult time for families and loved ones.["
The council is currently unable to provide a timeline for when cremations can recommence at the Lawnswood site, which was established in 1905 on Otley Road. The spokesperson added: "We have contacted funeral directors to advise them on our interim arrangements so that they can liaise with the families affected."
"Ceremonies will continue as normal as these parts of the building are not impacted."
