British woman denies father, 62, raped her in Crete: 'He's 100% innocent'

A British woman has hit out at Greek police after they charged her own father with raping her on the island of Crete.

The 33-year-old victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told officers last week that she was raped but cannot remember anything about her attacker, other than that he was wearing all-white clothing.

Greek police are said to have since gathered CCTV footage that shows the woman’s father – who was wearing all white – beating and sexually assaulting his daughter.

But the woman has insisted officers have got it wrong, telling MailOnline that she is certain her father is “100%” not the man who attacked her.

She said: “I can tell you 100% that he did not rape me. I live with my dad in the UK, I was on holiday with him in Greece and he’s the best dad in the world.

“There is no way he would do something so disgusting. I’ve told the Greek police this, but they are just ignoring me. This is an incredibly stressful, traumatic situation but there is hope for us.

“We’ve been told by the judge that if my dad’s DNA test clears him, then he will be free to go.”

However, police say the woman’s father was seen making lewd gestures at his daughter in a bar where they were both drinking before he allegedly hit her in the face and dragged her to a deserted beach and raped her.

Medical examiners told local newspaper Neakriti that the woman was “covered” in injuries that were consistent with stones and branches found on the beach of her attack.

They added that she also had injuries consistent with rape, while DNA samples have been collected.

The man shared a hug with his daughter as he appeared in a court in Crete's capital of Heraklion on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

He was remanded in custody, and his trial is set to take place within the next 18 months.

His daughter has said that she will remain on Crete until the case is sorted out.
