Crew Play Cricket on Navy Ship to Mark Australia Day

Cricket was played on the HMAS Canberra in Sydney on January 26 as the Royal Australian Navy ship hosted hundreds of people to mark Australia Day.

A group of volunteer firefighters battling bushfires was honored as part of the celebrations.

The day was also marked by protests, with thousands taking to the streets around the country to call for the Australia Day holiday to be abolished.

The date marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the first fleet of British ships at Port Jackson, which is regarded by many Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians as the beginning of colonial oppression, ABC reported. Credit: @COMAUSFLT via Storyful
