Crews Work to Contain Oil Spill From Philippine Tanker
Crews worked to contain an oil spill stretching several kilometers off the Philippines on March 1, after a motor tanker carrying 800,000 liters of oil partially sank, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
Footage released by the coast guard shows the mechanical recovery effort on Wednesday.
The MT Princess Empress was traveling from Bataan to Iloilo with 20 crew on board when it experienced engine trouble off Balingawan Point, the Philippine Coast Guard said early on Tuesday.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said it was “monitoring” the oil spill for its potential impacts on marine life, and the risk to lives and livelihoods in the area. Credit: Philippine Coast Guard via Storyful
