After this month's season finale, Criminal Minds has revealed a new love interest for Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) in season 15.

In season 14's last episode, fans received a game-changing twist when JJ confessed her deepest secret to Reid – that she's madly in love with him.

"I’ve always loved you," JJ told Reid.

"I was just too scared to say it before. And things are really just too complicated to say it now…. But you should know."

In the wake of JJ's confession, it has now been confirmed by TVLine that Reid's new love interest will be played by Perception star Rachael Leigh Cook.

Rachael is set to play Max, who manages to build up an unusual relationship with Reid. Her character will appear in at least two episodes of the final season.

Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Erica Messer explained that the first two hours of season 15 "will pick up" Reid and JJ's romance plot, explaining: "Because we can’t… pretend it didn’t happen. It’s definitely a huge driver for the first handful of episodes that will help add layers to those characters again."

On the final season, Messer added: "It’s really bittersweet, but I’m so, so grateful to CBS for giving us this heads-up."

Criminal Minds airs on CBS in the US and Sky Witness in the UK.
