Crosby's Zak Perzamanos ready for lift off after starring for Great Britain at Paris Olympics
Zak Perzamanos praises the “unbelievable” support he has received after his fourth placed finish in the Olympic men’s Trampoline final. The 21-year-old is the first Scouser to represent team GB in Trampolining.
And he received a hero's welcome back in Merseyside on his return to the region following his exploits in Paris.
Zak started trampolining at nine years old with his sister and aged 13 he moved to Liverpool Trampoline and Gymnastics club full time, after getting chosen for his first national in trampolining. at 11.
Perzamanos who is based out of the Liverpool Trampoline and Gymnastics academy has become the highest placed male GB trampolinist, beating Lee Brearley’s sixth place at Sydney in the 2000 games.
He said: “I’m made up, can’t complain can I? I kind of knew going into this competition I had a chance to do that, so I put that to the back of my mind while competing and just got my routines down.”
Around 100 members of the Liverpool Trampoline Gym made the trip to Paris, along with family members, some who even flew from Australia.
He said: “I didn’t expect to have this much support.
“Even whilst I was out there, seeing everyone after I finished was just unbelievable and coming home I’ve had even more support it’s unreal.”
The Team GB star garnered high praise for his routine, the most difficult completed at the games, that saw him just miss out on the podium, with a score of 59.840, only beaten by a score of 60.950 set by Chinese Olympian Langyu Yan.
He said: “It’s all a bit of white noise and a blur. I can’t remember too much other than just finishing it, but yeah it was unbelievable and I’ll never forget it.
“Being that close, for me that was such a good result, but it spurs me on to do even better next time.”
Perzamanos stayed in the Olympic Village surrounded by big name athletes.
He said: “I saw Andy Murray, I did try to see [Rafael] Nadal and [Carlos] Alcaraz but I didn’t manage to get a glimpse of them.
“Being in a place where everyone is an athlete is such a different vibe to anywhere else.
“The whole experience is just unforgettable.”
Despite finishing fourth, the 21-year-old sets his sights on the upcoming competitions, with Los Angeles 2028 being the target.
Perzamanos said: “ It will mainly be all the world championships at the end of every year, and then world cups.
“But just take it all as it comes and see what I can get out of them, the ultimate goal is gold, of course it is.”
Zak will next compete in the English Trampoline and Double Mini Tramp Championships in October.
