Crowder College holding book drive

Jan. 19—Crowder College Adult Education and Literacy has announced an upcoming children's book drive. Organizers said the goal of the drive is fostering literacy in young people.

This Love of Literacy is seeking new or gently used children's books for ages newborn to 7 from the community.

Donations can be dropped off at the front desks of Crowder College-Neosho, Crowder College-Cassville, Crowder College-McDonald County or the Joplin Advanced Training and Technology Center.

Additional collection sites are available at various class site locations, including Aurora, Mount Vernon, Monett, Cassville, Neosho, Noel and at Joplin Refugee and Immigrant Services.

The books will be distributed during the Love of Literacy public event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Wright Conference Center on the Neosho Crowder College campus.

In addition to the book distribution, there will be crafts for children, snacks, prizes and a reading corner.

The event will be held in partnership with Head Start and Early Head Start, Crowder College Lee Library and Newton County Libraries.

Crowder College Adult Education and Literacy will also make these books available to all AEL and English Language Learner students who are parents, grandparents or those with siblings.
