Crowds in Pyongyang welcome the start of the New Year

Crowds in North Korea turned out in the snowy capital Pyongyang to welcome the start of the New Year on Sunday.

Residents laid flowers and bowed to statues of past leaders Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung at the Mansu Hill Grand Monument.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared at a ceremony on New Year's Eve to celebrate the production of new rockets and congratulate the workers who made them, according to a state broadcaster.
