One was not amused when one discovered that John Lithgow's portrayal of Winston Churchill had been scrapped from The Crown's second series – but one needn't anymore.

Why? Because Churchill is back in the hit Netflix series' latest offering after all, and he appears in its sixth episode 'Vergangenheit', to be precise (via Entertainment Weekly).

Yep, although we were led to believe that John Lithgow would not be reprising his role as the iconic British prime minister, it turns out we were wrong.

Churchill appears, albeit briefly, in a flashback in 'Vergangenheit', where the then-PM is seen taking some very important documents to the palace to King George.

Mind you, we're not surprised that Lithgow returned to the show – especially when we know how much fun he had on set.

"I was the only American in the cast and was completely surrounded by fantastic British actors and I was intimidated by playing such an iconic person," he recently admitted.

"I thought I would have a target on my back and a contract out on me from every major actor in London, but in fact they were incredibly welcoming and made me feel genuinely more confident."

Season two of The Crown, which follows Elizabeth's reign and her marriage to Philip during the 1960s, is available on Netflix. You can read Digital Spy's (glowing) review right here.
