From Digital Spy

The Crown's third season marks a new era for the historical drama based on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Claire Foy and Matt Smith have made way for Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies as the Queen and Prince Philip, alongside a host of other brand new faces including Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Charles Dance as Lord Louis Mountbatten and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand (later Parker-Bowles), Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother and Jason Watkins as prime minister Harold Wilson.

Like the first two chapters before it, the latest batch of episodes will be available to stream on Netflix from this Sunday (November 17) and will cover a vast range of national and global events between 1964 and 1976, including the Aberfan mining disaster, the moon landing and the Royal Family documentary, as well as those which largely unfolded behind closed doors such as the early stages of Charles' relationship with Camilla and Margaret's tempestuous marriage and struggles with her mental health.

How faithful the series' depictions are of those more private moments haven't been publicly acknowledged by the Royal Family.

To celebrate the arrival of season three, those of you in the UK and Ireland who don't have access to a Netflix account will be able to watch the first episode in its entirety for free.

All you need to do is head to netflix.com/thecrown, where you can finally see for yourselves what all the fuss is about – and it'll stay there until December 15.

"The Crown has become a globally renowned British success story since it first launched on Netflix three years ago," said a Netflix spokesperson.

"We want to give as many people as possible a flavour of the great content Netflix is creating here in the UK by offering the first instalment of the new series without signing up."

To access the rest of the series you will have to sign up, but if you haven't already used your free 30-day trial, there's always that option.

The Crown returns on Sunday, November 17 on Netflix.
