BritBox's A Spy Among Friends has some big casting news: The Crown's Dominic West is being replaced by Mare of Easttown's Guy Pearce.

The upcoming limited series, which is coming to Spectrum in the US, originally had the Pride and The Wire actor starring opposite Homeland and Billions actor Damian Lewis, but things have shuffled around a bit for some reason in the year since that was announced.

But now Iron Man 3 and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert star Guy Pearce has stepped in, and production has already begun in London.

Other people starring in the show include EastEnders' Ade Edmonson, Line of Duty's Anna Maxwell Martin and The Handmaid's Tale actor Stephen Kunken.

Deadline, who reported the casting change, also state that the project will film in Romania and it is set to debut at the end of 2022.

The series is an adaptation of Ben Macintyre's book, which follows a British intelligence officer who defected from MI6 to the Soviet union and the KGB, named Kim Philby (who is being played by Guy Pearce).

His friendship with fellow agent Nicholas Elliot (played by Damian Lewis) is a huge part of the storyline, as it gets tested by their different allegiances and the global political shifts.

Other projects BritBox announced at the same time as A Spy Among Friends include an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Crime (starring Dougray Scott), Anthony Horowitz adaptation Magpie Murders and a five-part thriller called The Beast Must Die with Chernobyl's Jared Harris.

The streaming service features a load of classic British shows, and this year has made fans jump for joy by adding joyfully trashy drama Footballers' Wives and gone-too-soon soap Brookside to its line-up.
