Croydon crash sees cars go through empty shop unit next to Lidl as video shows aftermath
A crash in Croydon saw two cars go through an empty shop unit next to Lidl as third vehicle left the scene. The crash happened yesterday (September 13) around 3pm and saw a collision between three cars end with two ploughing into the empty shop unit. backwards, with damage to the front end apparently caused by the vehicle that fled.
Police say the third car involved did not stop at the scene and officers are trying to trace them. A police cordon was in place around the two cars - one red and one silver, with the red one backed onto the silver one - as traffic was stopped and a tram seen being held for a time.
Emergency services attended with police, ambulances and fire engines seen in a live video streamed on YouTube showing the aftermath. The Lidl remained open and looked undamaged from the accident.

Onlookers can be heard in the video in shock at the crash with one person saying: "Who comes down here at 70 miles per hour." There were no reported injuries in the crash and police have not confirmed the speed any of the vehicles were going.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at approximately 14:45hrs on Friday, September 13 to reports of a road traffic collision in Church Street, Croydon involving three vehicles. There were no reports of any serious injuries.
"One car did not stop at the scene and enquiries are under way to trace this. Enquiries into the circumstances continue. Anyone who could assist police is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD4108/13Sep."
