Watch: Shocking moment knifeman lunges at two police officers in broad daylight

This is the shocking moment an alleged knifeman appears to slash at two police officers with a machete-type weapon on the streets of London in broad daylight.

A man clad in a black jacket and headgear appears to hit out at one officer, who is holding his legs, during the incident in Croydon, south London, on 30 December at around 10am.

The clip, filmed by roofer Robert Ball, shows the man circle round the officers before pulling out a large black object, seemingly prompting the other officer to use spray.

The first officer, who had been on the floor, then uses his Taser – before the alleged attacker appears to try and rain down more blows.

He eventually falls over yards from a motorbike lying on the ground – as a member of the public runs to help.

The Metropolitan Police said a man, 23, has been arrested and charged following an incident at Cherry Tree Green.

Two officers were injured, with one suffering a concussion and another a suspected fracture, the force said.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, Scotland Yard said.

A statement said: "At around 10:00hrs on Thursday, 30 December officers from the Met’s South Area Command Safer Transport Team stopped a man riding a motorcycle at Cherry Tree Green, Croydon.

"The man, aged 23, became violent during the stop. He was detained following Taser deployment.

"A knife was recovered at the scene.

"One officer suffered a concussion and a second officer suffered a suspected fracture.

"A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.”
