Croydon phone thief locked up for 4 years after pinching 2 in under an hour
A habitual Croydon phone thief has been hit with four years behind bars. Amari Scott, 20 ,of Wrythe Lane, Sutton, was sentenced after being arrested for two thefts within an hour.
On Wednesday, March 6 2024, a woman in Croydon had her iPhone snatched out of her hands by a moped thief.
Less than an hour later, a report was made detailing another phone snatch while the victim waited for a bus. Real-time phone tracking data identified Scott and he was arrested the same day, still in possession of the phones.

Officers also found a stolen motorbike when arresting Scott. They added that the stolen phones were “pinging to this location.”
‘Robbery is invasive and frightening’
Chief Inspector James Weston said: “We understand the impact that robbery has on victims - it is invasive and frightening. That's why our teams are working so hard to deter and catch offenders to reassure our local community.
“Thanks to the hard work of officers, our partners and community grassroots organisations, we are stepping up our efforts and tackling the issues that matter most to the people of Croydon.”
The two robberies within an hour were caught on CCTV.
