Cruise singer Jane McDonald sparks first row in 'I'm A Celebrity' camp

Roman Kemp was forced to apologise to Adele Roberts after questioning her love of TV presenter Jane McDonald on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The cruise ship singer and Loose Women presenter managed to spark the first row in the jungle camp – despite not actually being one of this year’s celebrity contestants – when Capital FM DJ Kemp, 26, repeatedly questioned why bisexual Radio 1 DJ Roberts, 40, had chosen a picture of gay icon McDonald as a luxury item.

Kemp commented: “Jane McDonald is looking over us, can you think of a song of hers?'

Roberts said: “I just know her off Loose Women, I don’t know her actual songs but I know her from the cruising show when she does covers.”

Kemp replied: “No one knows what she does!... It’s just random, mate.”

Roberts then became defensive, asking: “Why though? I don’t understand... If I had brought in a picture of RuPaul would you have the same reaction?... That’s prejudice! I’m allowed to like what I want!”

Kemp apologised, saying: “I wasn’t saying that at all, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to!”

Roberts hit back: “It’s like you’re saying, ‘Why would I like Jane McDonald?’... I’m not allowed to like what I want?”

Kemp apologised again and Roberts said: “It’s fine, you are just going on about it so much… I’m not upset.”

Kemp said; “I like the picture being there,” and the pair shared a hug.

Roberts’s girlfriend, actress Kate Holderness, has released a statement on Twitter explaining why the DJ chose a picture of the 56-year-old singer and TV presenter.

She explained that campmates are allowed to choose two luxury items but they cannot pick the same things, and Roberts’s first choices of a family photo and pillow were already taken.

Holderness said: “The brief was ‘something to make you happy’, so she just chose something that never fails to cheer her up and something that reminds her of her Early Morning Radio 1 listeners – it’s a bit of a long running feature on Adele’s show, when they’re having a bit of a slump & feeling down, a listener will request ‘a bit of Jane’ to get them through the day!

“I do have to say that most of her decisions are made at 2am when she gets up for her show, most things make perfect sense at that time!”

And Nadine Coyle’s Twitter account posted a message of support, saying: “Concealer and a picture of Jane McDonald. What more could you need in the jungle?”
