The BBC has released first look pictures of Jenna Coleman in upcoming drama The Cry.

The Victoria star looks forlorn in the images as she sits on a bench dressed in a yellow blouse.

The four-part psychological thriller sees Coleman portray Joanna, a woman who travels with her husband Alistair and their baby from Scotland to Australia, to see Alistair’s mother.

While there, the pair become embroiled in a custody battle with his ex-wife for custody of Alistair's daughter Chloe.

Joanna and Alistair are confronted by difficult truths about parenthood as the drama explores the psychology of a young woman in depth.

Coleman stars alongside Australian actor Ewen Leslie, who plays Alistair, with Stella Gonet, Sophie Kennedy Clark and Asher Keddie supporting.

Earlier this month, Coleman debuted a new blonde look after undergoing a dramatic transformation for the series.

The actress shared a snap as she settled into a flight to Melbourne, stunning her 708,000 followers with a blonde head of hair.

The Cry is filmed in Melbourne and Glasgow and will air on the BBC later this year.
