It's sure to be the big transfer departure that dominates the summer for Leeds United, the future of star player Crysencio Summerville. Having picked up the Championship player of the season award the 22-year-old Dutchman is a man in demand, with a host of clubs linked with a move for the player.

Leeds United's financial position after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League is expected to result in them having to sell one of their prized assets to stay within the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with Summerville the likely departure given the type of clubs who have been linked making it difficult for the player or Leeds to turn down a good offer.

A switch for Summerville has been expected for a number of weeks and even if Leeds had won promotion to the Premier League, there was still a chance the winger would have moved on this summer. With so much speculation around what is to come next, we've taken a look at what we know so far and rounded up the latest.

Brighton open talks to secure Summerville transfer

Brighton and Have Albion have opened talks to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, according to talkSPORT. The Whites are demanding a fee upwards of £30million for the player after missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

Summerville, 22, has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road across recent months following his Championship Player of the Season award-winning campaign. The winger scored 19 goals and added nine assists across his 43 appearances.

The Seagulls are one of many Premier League teams credited with an interest in the Netherlands U21 international and have now opened talks for the player. The report went on to claim that Leeds are expecting to lose the player, with offers also set to be considered for Willy Gnonto, Jack Harrison and Georginio Rutter.

Crystal Palace plot Summerville move on one condition

Crystal Palace will make a move for Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville if they lose Eberechi Eze or Michael Olise this summer, according to The Mirror. Palace are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old Dutch winger but will only pursue a deal if one of their star players leaves Selhurst Park this summer.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the Palace duo, although a move is yet to materialise with Eze currently away with England at Euro 2024 and Olise partaking in the 2024 Paris Olympics with France. Both players reportedly have 'complex' release clauses in their respective contracts, which could leave the Eagles powerless to an exit if the previously noted teams do offer the required money.

Leeds position strengthened ahead of Summerville sale

Leeds United have seen their financial position strengthened ahead of any potential sale of star man Crysencio Summerville this summer. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the club value Summerville between £30-35million and believe the recent investment from Red Bull and level of interest in the player will guarantee a figure in this region is received.

The 22-year-old is a prized asset at Elland Road following his impressive 2023/24 campaign, which saw him secure the Championship Player of the Season award after recording 19 goals and nine assists. Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa and most recently Brighton and Hove Albion have all been touted as possible landing destinations.

Clubs had previously been circling the situation after it was claimed Leeds needed to come up with around £73m by the end of June due to owed transfer fees, although as previously noted, the financial situation has improved given the recent investment from Red Bull into the club.

Leeds United stand firm on Crysencio Summerville value

The summer transfer window has only been open for four days and already we have a significant development in the future of Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville. A move by Brighton and Hove Albion to officially firm up their interest in the player and let Leeds United know of their intentions to explore a deal is the first salvo in what could be a bidding war for the Championship player of the year.

Chelsea have an interest, as do Liverpool, even if both favour Crystal Palace's Michael Olise. Don't expect the interest to end there, either in the Premier League or across Europe, with perhaps a misconception Leeds are desperate for a cash injection and that a bargain is there to be had.

The trouble interested parties will soon find is that is not exactly the case. Leeds do need a high-profile sale to help settle their current issue with the EFL's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), but the Whites have been afforded some breathing room thanks to their new ownership investment and the clever way the deal with Red Bull was put together.

Chelsea favourites to sign Summerville

Chelsea have a new manager at the helm in Enzo Maresca, with the former Leicester City boss's arrival only increasing the likelihood of an offer coming in the next few weeks from the Blues. Maresca knows all too well about Summerville's abilities having seen him close hand last season in the race for the Championship title and automatic promotion.

Chelsea have been linked with Summerville for a number of weeks having identified the Dutchman as a player they can add to their squad without having to pay the eye-watering amounts previously shelled out by club owner Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital. Over £1b has already been spent on transfers since Boehly's arrival, with five managers also through the door since his arrival four years ago.

Summerville would fit perfectly into Maresca's favoured 4-3-3 system, with the deal-making even more sense now the managerial appointment has been made.

Liverpool pull out but have a role to play

Liverpool are understood to have ended their interest in Summerville despite being the early front-runners to sign the player. Liverpool appointing a fellow Dutchman in Arne Slot will no doubt have lowered the odds on the Reds signing the Leeds star, but the Merseyside club have had a close eye on Crystal Palace's Michael Olise for some time now and it's thought that is were their transfer priority lies.

Should the Reds get Olise, Palace are expected to use some of the potential £60m transfer fee to bring Summerville to Selhurst Park, with the Eagles having made their interest known.

Summerville transfer asking price

Having signed from Feyenoord in 2020 for a reported £1.3million, Leeds are set to make a huge profit on the 22-year-old. Summerville is valued at around £35-£40million following his performances for Daniel Farke 's side this term and while he would be a huge loss, would provide a significant dent in the money the need to accumulate before the end of this month.

It has been reported Leeds owe £190million in transfer fee instalments to other clubs, with £73million of that needing to be paid by the end of June, meaning we're expecting Summerville's future to be resolved before the players are due to return for pre-season training. This is very unlikely to be a deal that rumbles on towards the start of the new season.
