Wilfried Zaha says he has suffered racist abuse from Manchester United and Liverpool fans on social media.

The Crystal Palace winger, 24, wrote on his Instagram account: "If Man United and Liverpool fans feel better by calling me a black monkey in my messages... feel free to carry on if it makes your day better."

Zaha spent 18 months as a Manchester United player between August 2013 and February 2015.

He is currently in Hong Kong with Crystal Palace, who yesterday defeated West Brom 2-0 in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Speaking after the match his manager Frank de Boer said Zaha had been the victim of overly physical challenges from West Brom defenders.

"If you want to sell the product of the Premier League and the beauty of the game, the beauty is not those kind of challenges," said De Boer.

"Of course when it's a fair challenge it's no problem, but for example they were really looking for Wilfried Zaha so we cannot accept that. He is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and I don't want to think about him being out for a couple of weeks or months."

Zaha posted his comments on Instagram shortly after.
