Mamadou Sakho is set to have a scan on his injured knee, with Crystal Palace facing an anxious wait to discover whether he damaged ligaments against Tottenham.

Sakho, on loan from Liverpool, was carried off at Selhurst Park and was due to have a scan once the swelling around his left knee went down.

Palace manager Sam Allardyce said this morning: “We are unable to say what the extent of the injury is. It did not look too clever the way the knee twisted.”

Palace are desperate to keep Sakho, who has made a huge impact at the club, but they do not have an option to make his loan move permanent and Allardyce says it will take a “big negotiation” to buy him this summer.

Speaking after the match, Allardyce said he hoped that defender had not sustained damage to his cruciate knee ligament.

“It’s a ligament injury, which ligament we don't know. We hope it's not the cruciate. It could be medial or lateral, but certainly a hyperextension of the knee. We will see after a scan.

“We won't know if any of our three injured centre-halves will get fit again.”
