Cuban Medics Arrive in Italy to Battle Coronavirus

A team of more than 50 Cuban doctors, nurses, and experts arrived in the Lombardy region of Italy on Sunday, March 22, to help the fight against the coronavirus.

The medical brigade landed Sunday afternoon at Milan’s Malpensa Airport, disembarking the airplane carrying Cuban flags, as seen in this video shared by Cuban Ambassador Jose Carlos Rodriguez.

Hospitals in the Lombardy region of Italy were overflowing, said regional health adviser Giulio Gallera, who put out a call for international help.

The doctors will be sent to a field hospital in Bergamo, local media reported.
