Yahoo News Cumberbatch surprises best friend Judge Rinder on GMB
Robert Rinder made a celebratory appearance on Good Morning Britain today.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star recently filmed his 1000th case on his ITV daytime series Judge Rinder. So in order to mark the milestone, Robert's real-life best friend Benedict Cumberbatch surprised him with a message he had secretly recorded, which was broadcast live on the show.
"Rob, congratulations on your 1000th show!" Infinity War star Benedict said. "I only got up to 92 of Hamlet. I can't imagine how you feel planning Judge Rinder every day. That's amazing, we love you!"
Laughing in shock, Robert admitted he had no idea his pal had filmed the segment.
Joking, the barrister and TV personality commented: "It's a similar thing you know, playing Hamlet and dealing with a case with a man in a lime green mankini. Very, very similar!"
When asked if ITV had given him anything special to celebrate his work anniversary, Robert admitted he was hoping for a pay rise – but that didn't quite work out.
He quipped: "Well, I thought it was a good opportunity, given the economic climate, for a little bit of a pay rise – Judge Judy seems to get it every year. But instead, they gave me a golden gavel!"
Benedict and Robert met while they were studying at Manchester University. Their paths crossed when Robert had to step down from a role in a student play and the Sherlock star auditioned to replace him.
Since then, the pair have been best friends. Benedict even asked Robert to be his best man when he married Sophie Hunter back in 2015.
Meanwhile, Benedict officiated at Robert's wedding to Seth Cummings in Ibiza in 2013.
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays from 6am on ITV. Judge Rinder airs on weekdays at 2pm, also on ITV.
