CURTIS MAIN inked a permanent deal with Ayr United this lunchtime - then set his sights on a quickfire Premiership return.

The 32-year-old becomes the latest addition to Scott Brown's promotion push and has agreed an 18-month contract at Somerset Park.

The former Motherwell, Aberdeen and St Mirren striker will add to Brown's frontline options as Ayr bid to gun down title rivals Falkirk during the run-in.

And Main says he's delighted to be at Somerset as a fully signed up member of the bid for the top flight.

He told the Ayrshire Post: "With where the club is at, I felt it was key to have that investment in what's happening here moving forward. So when I knew there was something to be done in the longer term, I was more than keen for it to happen.

"This next block is all about trying to get to get to the Premiership and then we go again from there, but I know that everyone is pulling in the same direction to make that happen.

"Looking at things from the outside, the team seems to be in a really good place. Everything I've heard from different people here is all the same - hopefully I can add to that and we can kick on for the last half of the season.

"The manager has been clear that he wants me here and as a player, you always want that belief shown in you and that's what I feel I'm getting here.

"Over the course of my career, any manager who's put me on the park and let me do what I can do seems to get the best out of me. So it's a great starting point to feel that level of backing in coming here."

Main added: "I approached the conversation with the manager here in the same way I would with any other but I'm obviously well aware of who he is having played against him and know the type of character that he is. Off the back of that, I got a very good feeling about the place and what he's trying to achieve here so that was a real motivating factor in doing the deal.

"I'm looking to get back on the park and get regular football and I'm looking forward to coming in and getting to grips with the new set of lads here in a different environment. Hopefully I can hit the ground running."

Main goes straight into today's squad and has been named on the bench for the clash against Partick Thistle.
