A KFC customer said he was left “traumatised” after biting into a chip to discover what he believed to be a child’s tooth cooked inside it.

Kush Wilson, 49, visited the fast-food chain in Church Street, Croydon, on Saturday evening with his son Zakke, 25, and nephew, Kristian.

The family sat down to enjoy a long-awaited catch-up over a fried chicken dinner when Mr Wilson bit into a chip and felt “something crunch in his mouth”.

His nephew told the Standard that Mr Wilson “immediately spat it out and soon realised it looked like a tooth”. KFC denied it was a tooth.

The 31-year-old, who lives in Thamesmead, south-east London, said: “We’d both ordered a mini fillet burger and fries and sat down to eat it.

“My uncle was eating his chips when we heard the crunch.

“It was absolutely disgusting. It looked deep-fried, like it had been cooked inside the chip.

“My uncle is traumatised by it.”

The family believed the “tooth” was roughly the same size as that of a five-year-old child.

Kristian Wilson added: “It wasn’t even an adult’s tooth. I’ve got a five-year-old and it’s a about the same size as his teeth.

“We were enjoying a nice family catch up and this completely ruined it.”

He claimed other customers also began returning their food when the family complained about the grim discovery.

The BT worker added that initially they had given the restaurant’s manager the unexpected item but had later taken it back to elevate a complaint themselves.

A KFC spokesperson said: “We take food safety very seriously, so were shocked to hear about this. It’s extremely unlikely that this object is a tooth, but as the customer has kept it, we’ve not been able to test it yet.

"We immediately offered Kush a full refund and replacement meals to say sorry for his experience. We’d like to reassure KFC fans that this hasn’t happened before at this restaurant, which has the highest possible 5 out of 5 rating.”
