Cyclist, 30, fighting for life after sustaining head and chest injuries falling off bike in Clapton

A cyclist is fighting for his life after falling from his bike in Clapton.

The man, believed to be 30, was rushed to an east London hospital following the incident.

The Met said police were called at 1.35pm to the junction of Cornwaite Road with Lea Bridge Road, which was still closed to traffic early Monday evening.

A spokesman for the Met said: "He was taken to an east London hospital. His injuries are described as life-threatening."

He added: "At this early stage it is not believed that cyclist was in collision with a vehicle."

Motorists were advised to avoid the area, while police efforts to identify the victim were ongoing.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.24pm today to Lea Bridge Road to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We sent a number of resources including an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic.

"We treated a patient at the scene for head and chest injuries and took them as a priority to hospital by road ambulance."
