Cyclist remains in serious condition in hospital after crash near Basildon Railway Station which shut road for hours
A cyclist has been left in a serious condition in hospital following a crash near an Essex railway station. There was a huge emergency services presence near Basildon Railway Station on Sunday afternoon (November 17) following the crash which involved a car and the cyclist.
The incident took place at the junction of Southernhay and Station Way. Essex Police attended the scene alongside ambulance colleagues. The road was closed whilst emergency services responded to the incident at around 3pm, and remained that way for several hours.
An Essex Police spokesperson said at the time: "We remain on the scene of a serious collision in Southernhay, Basildon, between a car and a cyclist. The collision took place at the junction of Southernhay and Station Way.

"A significant emergency service response remains on the scene and a road closure is in place. We would thank the public for their patience while we respond to this incident and ask that they avoid the area where possible."
Today (November 18), Essex Police confirmed the cyclist, who was riding an electric bicycle, remains in hospital in a serious condition. No arrests have been made but the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
