Cyclist struck, killed in Belleville

Police in Belleville, Ont., say a cyclist died in hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Dundas Street W. early Thursday morning.

On Thursday, police said they were called to the crash near Avonlough Road around 4:30 a.m.

On Friday, they identified the cyclist as 40-year-old Melissa McGiffin of Belleville.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and co-operated with police, who said they're not expecting to lay charges. Police did not explain why.

The crash happened about three kilometres west of Belleville's core.
