An "unlucky" dad caught on camera with a knife claimed he was using it to build a children's den.

Lewis Millar landed in trouble after police probing a disturbance identified him from a resident's ring doorbell footage.

Millar, 26, of McCracken Drive, Viewpark, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted carrying a knife without reasonable excuse in nearby Cedar Drive on March 3 last year.

Lewis Devoy, prosecuting, said police officers went to the area after an anonymous caller reported an incident shortly after 5pm.

He told the court: "When the officers arrived there was no obvious sign of a disturbance.

"They spoke to a number of homeowners and one showed them ring doorbell camera footage.

"The officers saw the accused Lewis Millar walking in Cedar Drive with a knife in his hand."

Millar has previous convictions and has been jailed in the past, but his lawyer claimed that on this occasion he wasn't involved in trouble.

The solicitor stated: "He tells me he was building a den for the weans. The knife was used to cut wood for this.

"He was walking home with it and was unlucky to be going past the scene of a police investigation. It was something he was not involved in."

Sentence on Millar was deferred until March for background reports and for Sheriff Mungo Bovey to view the footage.
