My dad loved visiting one of Britain's best beaches so I followed in his footsteps - but one thing put me off

Arriving at Majuba Road Car Park in Redcar, I was immediately greeted with seagulls and an amazing view of the sea. From that moment I knew that I was going to have a good day and as the song goes ‘always take the weather with you’ - it appears that I did! I brought the blue skies from my home to Redcar.

You would not think it would be the middle of September, as I felt the sun warm my back straightaway after getting out of my car. As I've said before I don’t research too much into where I am going or read TripAdvisor reviews, as I like to have a clear mind and just write about what I see.

However, when told my dad of my weekly adventures around North Yorkshire and where I was going over the following weeks - I told him about going to Redcar. His face lit up with joy as he recalled memories of visiting with his parents when he was younger.

One thing that always stuck to him was how it took 'ages' to get to the sea and I can see how as a child and even an adult it looked like it would take a while to walk to it. So I felt like that was challenge for myself to try and see how long it took to walk to the sea. Setting my stopwatch on my iPhone, I walked leisurely to the sea - barefoot since I also wanted test the sand quality to see if it was just like being on holiday. So, I was very surprised to find how gentle it was but also was quite firm and not grainy!

As I made my way to the sea, I was starting to regret my decision when I saw rocks and sharp shells on the beach but I decided to continue forward on my mission. As my dad said, the beach really did go on for miles. Every time you thought you had reached the end and near the sea another section of the beach appeared.

.Finally, after 7 minutes and 39.40 seconds exactly, I reached the sea and dipped my toes - which was of course cold but very soothing but I would be dipping nothing else in as I didn’t bring my swimming costume. Which is something I need to remember to bring when I visit next time, as well as a towel for my sandy feet.

I stood in the sea for a while as I took in my surroundings, to the left was the factory sites in the distance , in the middle the town centre and to the right more sand and the Redcar Beacon. This beach is really perfect and proves that you do not need to go abroad! I suppose the only thing that was spoiling the view was the wind turbines close to the shores - but beggars cannot be choosers and you could easily walk further along the beach to escape them

As I was heading back to the car park, I smiled as I saw different footprints in the sand belonging to horses, dogs and humans . There cannot be a bad word said about the beach as there’s even a Haven caravan resort on the site.

That was until I saw the amount of rubbish left on the side of the bins rotting away. It was such a shame to see the smelly bags along the side of the pathway right in front of a beach that was crowned Britain’s best beaches for 2024. It was not just one but several bins along the path also had the same issue despite inside the bin being half-empty.

The rubbish slightly soured what had been a wonderful trip to the beach.
