Dad Thanks ‘Kindhearted’ Bus Driver Who Returned Daughter’s Purse To House

A father has “had his faith restored in humanity” after a kindhearted bus driver went out of his way to return his daughter’s lost purse.

Lily Sawyers, 17, left the item on a Stagecoach bus after work on Saturday evening.

Shortly after arriving back at her house in Hull, she realised the purse was missing.

But, just as she was telling her dad, she heard the letterbox go and found the item returned with a note.

It read: "To Lily Sawyers, found your purse on my bus tonight so I thought I’d return it for you. Hope it’s the right house! Bus driver.“

"She didn’t even realise she had left her purse in the bus and it had everything in there for her like her purse, driving licence and other things,” her dad, Ian, told the Hull Daily Mail.

"She was gutted but we were just chatting later and heard the letterbox go.

"As we looked outside, we saw a dark car driving away.”

Ian then took to Facebook to post the story – and asked users to share the message so they could say thank you in person.

Eventually, someone got in touch.

"I got a message from somebody who knew a driver and I was able to message him myself to say thanks,” he said.

“It was such a nice thing to do and he seemed like a really nice guy. I even offered him something to say thank you but he would not even accept that.”

“With everything that has gone on lately, and with the news seeming a bit doom and gloom, to have something like this happen is really uplifting,” he said.

“It really restores your faith in humanity.”
