While Jarrod Spedding was quietly settling into the weekend this past Friday night, his 14-year-old daughter Tyler was tucking into a bottle of vodka with friends in the park.

Like a lot of teenagers, Tyler had used the popular trick of telling her dad that she was sleeping at her friend’s house while her friend told her parents she was sleeping at Tyler’s, leaving the pair free to stay out all night and party with their friends. But the party took a serious turn when Tyler ended up drinking too much, landing herself in the emergency room of Blackburn Royal Hospital.

While she was still unconscious on Saturday, her dad took to Facebook to warn others of the dangers of underage drinking.

“To all Tyler’s friends…this is what happens when you tell your parents you’re sleeping at your friend’ house and they say they are sleeping at yours, and you think its clever to go to a park and drink a bottle of vodka!” Spedding writes. “Tyler still hasn’t woke up yet and has been in Blackburn Royal Hospital in recovery since 10 last night when she was rushed there by the paramedics where they took over her breathing.”

Accompanying the post are three pictures of the teen hooked up to a respirator. It doesn’t look good.

Spedding explains that there is a reason the legal drinking age in the U.K. is 18 and that it is not “clever” for teens to disregard this.

“Let this be a lesson to you all and let’s hope she’s OK!”

Within the first 48 hours, the post has been shared more than 44,000 times with more than 10,000 comments — many thanking the dad for sharing the unfortunate experience.

“It’s not easy being a parent, we try to educate them to the best of our knowledge. And we have to at some point t trust them, sadly your daughter is not on her own. My heart goes out to you, and I hope your daughter makes a full recovery. And she can also help others because of her experience,” said Linda Goddard.

“We all make mistakes I just hope young people take notice. Its not worth it,” added Tommy Baxter.

But others were quick to call him out, saying it wasn’t fair to make the young girl’s mistake social fodder.

“Can’t believe you would do this to your daughter. You have definitely set her up for a slating her whole life,” said Melissa Wasson.
