As summer approaches, many are enjoying the sight of blooming flowers in their gardens. However, the warmer weather also brings with it the unwelcome appearance of weeds.

These pesky plants can sprout up anywhere, from lawns and flower beds to patios and driveways. One father claims to have discovered a simple homemade solution to eliminate these unwanted intruders from your driveway.

He shared his "weed killer recipe" on Reddit, stating that this mixture, made from common household items, is not only more cost-effective than branded weed killers but also poses no harm to animals. He did caution, however, that this method might not be suitable for areas where other plants are intended to grow.

To naturally eradicate weeds, he suggests mixing a gallon of vinegar with a cup of salt and two tablespoons of liquid dish soap, preferably an eco-friendly variant to maintain the naturalness of the solution. After combining these three ingredients, pour the mixture into a spray bottle and apply it to the affected areas, allowing them to absorb the solution.

The high acetic acid content in the vinegar will dehydrate the weeds, leading them to wither and die. For optimal results, it's recommended to use vinegar with a high percentage of acetic acid, ideally between 10 and 20 per cent, reports the Mirror.

Similarly, salt works to dehydrate the plants and disrupt the internal water balance of the plant's cells. As it is water-soluble, it works best when mixed with a liquid and applied, making it easier for the weeds to absorb.

Dish soap acts as a binder, helping the vinegar and salt to stick to the plant's leaves. Under this combination, the weed should die off.
