A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed in broad daylight outside a busy east London Tube station.

The youngster was rushed to hospital following the incident, which happened at around 5.20pm on Tuesday outside Dagenham Heathway station.

People near to the scene reported hearing “loads of sirens” and said traffic backed up as emergency services descended on the scene.

One passerby, who witnessed the emergency response, said he felt "horrified" there had been another incident of knife crime.

"I hope and pray the young lad recovers quickly," he told the Standard.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 5.20pm to reports of a stabbing outside Dagenham Heathway Station.

“The victim, a 16-year-old male has been taken to hospital."

In a later update, the force stated his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.

Sections of road were closed and bus services diverted due to the incident.

London's air ambulance helicopter attended the scene.

Police said no arrests have been made at this stage.​

An update, shared shortly before 7pm by Barking and Dagenham Police said officers were dealing with a "serious assault" on the Heathway, Dagenham.

Cordons and a crime scene had been implemented.
