Yahoo News Daisy Jones & The Six's Sam Claflin shares regret at gritty role
Sam Claflin has expressed regret over one of his most harrowing roles to date.
The actor, recently seen in Prime Video's Daisy Jones & The Six, tried to shed his rom-com persona by playing the villain in Jennifer Kent's gut-punching The Nightingale.
Set in 1825 in the penal colony of Van Diemen's Land, the Aussie period thriller stars The Fall's Aisling Franciosi as an Irish convict seeking revenge against Lieutenant Hawkins, played by Claflin.
We won't go into spoilers here, but let's just say that Hawkins could be one of the most cold-blooded baddies you'll see on screen, with the role marking quite the departure from Claflin's previous endeavours.

In a recent chat with GQ, the Hunger Games star admitted he doesn't think he'd be comfortable exploring that evil side for a role again.
"I went through a stage of desperately vying for an Oscar but doing things that were really not me. Physically, emotionally transforming myself," he said.
"[The Nightingale] was too far the other way. I think that was the turning point in my life. I don't think I could do that again."

The actor can be currently seen in the role of singer Billy Dunne in Daisy Jones & The Six, loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac's success.
Claflin is part of a huge ensemble cast, also featuring Riley Keough in the role of Daisy, as well as Suki Waterhouse, Camila Morrone, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon, Nabiyah Be, Tom Wright and Timothy Olyphant.
Based on the book of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the series releases two episodes weekly, with the final two instalments premiering on March 24.
