Dajjal link in Netflix's Messiah causes fans to think massive 'spoiler' has been revealed

Netflix has released the trailer for their new thriller show Messiah, but it seems they may have given a little too much away as fans think they've figured out a huge plot twist.

The streaming service released the trailer on YouTube on Tuesday, and in less than a week it has clocked nearly 12 million views.

The trailer sees the mysterious appearance of a young man in Syria, who claims he was sent to Earth by his father for a special mission, being investigated by CIA officer.

The description box next to it asks: “Who do you think he is? Watch Messiah on Netflix.”

But Arabic speakers quickly pointed out that the man, played by actor Mehdi Dehbi, is called Al-Masih.

Al-Masih ad-Dajjal is considered an evil figure and is often referred to as "the deceiving Messiah" or thought of as a specific end-times deceiver impersonating the true Messiah. In Christianity, this is commonly known as the Anti-Christ.

In religious scriptures, a number of locations are associated with the emergence of the Dajjal, but usually, he emerges between Syria and Iran.

It didn’t take long for fans on Twitter to start making links and many quickly concluded that the lead character is not who he is claiming to be.

One Twitter user said: "Crying @ the fact that Muslims figured out the twist ending of the Netflix 'Messiah' show b/c they LITERALLY NAMED THE CHARACTER DAJJAL. [sic]”

When one fan tweeted their observation, they then claimed Netflix had blocked on them on Twitter - but a spokesperson for the streaming service has denied this.

They told Standard Online: “There’s no truth to this story we have not blocked fans."

Season one of Messiah will be out on New Year’s Day.

The Netflix synopsis for the show reads: “A wary CIA officer investigates a charismatic man who sparks a spiritual movement and stirs political unrest. Who exactly is he? And what does he want?”

The show, created by Michael Petroni, will also star Michelle Monaghan and Jane Adams.
