Damaged Storefronts in Acapulco in Wake of Strong Quake

Damage to buildings was reported in Acapulco after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rattled Mexico’s Guerrero state on September 7.

This footage, filmed by Silvia G Rios, shows smashed windows and damaged shopfronts on Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman in Acapulco. The epicenter of the earthquake was about six miles southwest of Acapulco. Its effects were also felt as far away as Mexico City.

The quake took place shortly before 8:48 pm local time on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey and Mexico’s National Seismological Service. The US agency measured its magnitude at 7.0, while its Mexican counterpart placed the magnitude at 7.1.

The earthquake was followed by 73 aftershocks by 10pm, with the strongest placed at a magnitude of 5.2, Mexico’s National Seismological Service said. Credit: Silvia G. Rios via Storyful
