Dame Barbara Windsor To Make EastEnders’ Return As Peggy Mitchell’s Ghost?

The TV legend has revealed she’s keen to reprise her character and play a poltergeist on the BBC One soap.

Dame Barbara Windsor would love for Peggy Mitchell to copy her frenemy Pat Butcher (played by Pam St Clement) and return to Albert Square after her death.

It’s not clear whether she wants Peggy to be a comforting ghoul or a raging Queen Vic landlady, heckling ‘GET OUTTA MA PUB’, at drunken louts, but she’s set on raising the idea with BBC bosses.

She told The Sun: “I would love Peggy to come back on as a ghost — I’d definitely be up for it. I’d love that as I’d have been able to have had a rest for a little bit. I’m going to have to talk to the producers so they can find a way of doing that. I’m still in touch with them all so it would be easy.’

And the Dame is confident in her power to persuade her former bosses, reminding us she instigated the unlikely return of Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, earlier this year.

She said: “When I went back for my last scenes I said, ‘I’ll get Grant back for you’, and of course he came back, didn’t he?”

Barbara’s love for the show has never waned after all these years and she cares a lot about the young stars who are coming through.

She said: “I want to go back to help those young actors — sometimes they need someone to really show them what to do. In my day we were taught about respect and how to behave.”

But she’s placed her bet on 28-year-old Lacey Turner being the next actor to be an EastEnders’ great.

Barbara added: “She’s one that is going to go all the way and become a new EastEnders legend.”
