Damian Lewis has written a beautifully touching tribute to his wife Helen McCrory, who tragically passed away last week at the age of 52 from cancer.
In a post for The Times, the Homeland actor shared anecdotes about how McCrory was mistaken for someone else by Lauren Bacall and how she had huge respect for taxi drivers, as well as one of the last requests she asked of him a few weeks before her death.
Lewis commemorated his wife saying she was "generous, brave, uncomplaining, constantly reminding us all of how lucky we've been, how blessed we are".
He also stated: "Her generosity has extended to encouraging us three to live. Live fully, take opportunities, have adventures."
The couple has been married since 2007 and had two teenage children together, daughter Manon, 14, and 13-year-old son Gulliver.
He recalled of her last moments: "Only a couple of weeks ago she said to us from her bed, 'I want Daddy to have girlfriends, lots of them, you must all love again, love isn’t possessive, but you know, Damian, try at least to get through the funeral without snogging someone.'"
Her departure was announced by Lewis in a statement on his Twitter account on Friday, April 16.
As well as her roles in the theatre and on the hugely popular BBC One drama Peaky Blinders, McCrory played Narcissa Malfoy (Draco's mother) in the Harry Potter films, after having to pass on the role of Bellatrix Lestrange to Helena Bonham Carter due to her pregnancy.
Her on-screen husband, Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs, also paid tribute to the actress, writing that she was "the greatest actress... scabrously funny, shockingly naughty and with an empathetic heart the size of a planet."
