Some Dancing on Ice fans complained pro skater Vanessa Bauer is advantageously partnered with young celebrities for the competition.

As the 28-year-old took to the ice with Love Island and Celebs Go Dating star Chris Taylor on Sunday, 12 January's opening show, the social media hashtag transformed into a cauldron of criticism.

They alluded to her having success with her previous Dancing on Ice partners including Jake Quickenden, Wes Nelson, Joey Essex and Miles Nazaire.

Taylor and Bauer's debut skate was a feel-good affair thanks to the You Make My Dreams (by Hall & Oates) soundtrack, yet that didn't stop fans jumping on the latter via X.

"Shock! Vanessa has another celebrity that can skate, like every year! It's so predictable these days!" complained one Dancing on Ice fan.

Scoring the pair a total of 24, the judges weighed in on Taylor and Bauer's efforts in the feedback segment, with Ashley Banjo saying: "I think you were just in your own head. I think if you was to do that again right now you'd already take it up another [0.5's worth of a score]. I think it's all there."

Jayne Torvill appreciated Taylor's forwards and backwards crossovers, yet felt that "there were moments where you were on two feet and you didn't necessarily need to be.

"Some of the finishes of some of the positions are a bit untidy. Keep working on that," she told him.

Dancing on Ice airs Sundays on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
