Dancing with the Stars contestant Bobby Bones injures himself three times: 'There was blood and a tooth'

Prime-time dancing reality TV show Dancing with the Stars just premiered its 27th season to excitement from fans - but pitting amateurs alongside professional dancers doesn’t come without its risks.

For one contestant - country music radio DJ Bobby Bones - the new season of the show has left him with multiple injuries.

According to Bones, whose real name is Bobby Estell, two of the incidents happened ahead of his and partner Sharna Burgess’s first dance - and they were entirely his fault.

Speaking to People, Bones revealed that he’d been elbowed in the mouth twice by his dance partner - with one time resulting in dental injuries.

“I had to fill out a lot of paperwork, because I got hit really hard,” Bones said. “There was blood and a tooth. I still don’t know what I’m doing. She was doing her spin thing, and she was doing what she was supposed to do, and my face was not doing what it was supposed to do."

Following Bones and Burgess’s first dance, which earned the pair 20 points from the judges, Bones shared on Instagram that he got too excited, fell and may have hurt his shoulder during his unplanned post-dance celebration, according to USA Today.

While some of the judges didn’t know what to make of Bones and Burgess’s dance, judge Bruno Tonioli used the words “exquisitely demented” to describe the pair’s take on the jive.

Bones previously told People he’s gained an immense respect for the dancers and contestants - who are required to practice every single day as part of a physically-demanding schedule that ensures they are competition-ready each Monday and Tuesday night.

He also called the first dance the "best night of my life."

Bones isn’t the first contestant to sustain injuries on the show - over the 27 seasons, various dancers have gotten hurt attempting to secure the trophy.
