'Dangerous' junction is low priority for safety measures, says council
A junction residents have branded dangerous will be looked at but may well be given lower priority for safety measures than others.
People living at the Bridges, on Buxton Road, Macclesfield, say their view is obscured by parked vehicles as they try and turn onto the busy route. They have asked for at least three years for yellow lines to be extended and solve the problem.
Local councillor Mick Warren has spoken to residents about the issue and wants to spend some of his ward budget on the scheme, estimated to cost around £4,500. Cheshire East Council has now confirmed its stance.
A spokesperson said: “As this location is an access to private property and not a junction, its priority within our works programme is lower than it would be if it was a road junction.
“The existing double yellow lines have been in place for a number of years prior to the recent development.
“Our highways team will assess this location for its future works programme to see if it reaches the requirements for intervention and provided there is sufficient budget available.”
The Bridges, which has 62 apartments, was unveiled around five years ago.
People living there say as a main road between Macclesfield and Buxton it is busy and often has large lorries driving on it.
This means turning right out of the development, across traffic, to go towards Macclesfield is particularly dangerous.
It is estimated around 40 residents there drive but there are also regular visits from healthcare professionals.
Jean Alston is among those to have contacted the council and also raised the issue in the Express.
She said: “It is very dangerous the yellow lines are for no more than one car length, it means you really cant’s see and have to take a chance.”
