'Dangerous Rate of Spread' Pushes Glass Fire Into Sonoma County

Multiple fires have merged with the Glass Fire burning in California’s Napa and Sonoma counties, bringing the blaze to at least 36,236 acres as of Monday, September 28, fire officials said.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said the Glass Fire has been expanding with a “dangerous rate of spread” and was zero percent contained. Evacuations were ordered for Napa and Sonoma counties.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said this video, posted on Monday, shows the Glass Fire burning near the intersection of St Helena Road and Erland Road in Santa Rosa.

“Crews are doing their best to slow the spread and save homes. We are patrolling for looters,” the sheriff’s office said. Credit: Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
