Yahoo News Daniel Craig defends divisive ending of new movie Queer
Queer has already created a lot of discussion from those who have seen Luca Guadagnino's new movie, and now that it's out in the UK, we can expect more reaction.
We're not just talking about its intimate sex scenes or the potential awards recognition for the likes of Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey. Instead, we're talking about the final act which takes an unexpected turn.
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by William S Burroughs, Queer follows writer William Lee (Craig) who yearns after young student Eugene Allerton (Starkey) when he arrives in Mexico City.
The pair become close, but their entire relationship and respective futures are changed forever by a trip into the jungle. It leads to a trippy final act and ending that hasn't been to everybody's tastes, but it's an ending that Craig has now defended.

"There are a number of things happening because the book is incomplete," Craig told Digital Spy in an interview to mark Queer's UK release.
"But actually, Oliver Harris [the editor of the New Edition of William Burroughs' Queer], the other night, said he doesn't think it's incomplete.
"He thinks that's what Burroughs intended, that the feeling that you have at the end of the book is the feeling he wants you to feel, which is sort of an emptiness and a kind of 'What? What's next?'."
Craig added that Guadagnino and writer Justin Kuritzkes have "recreated" that feeling of the book, as well as adding a "moment of hope" when William and Eugene "come together" in the jungle.

"It is pure synchronicity, and through Dr Cotter's eyes, Lesley Manville's brilliant performance, you see the moment where you think these people could be together," he continued.
"They could, there's a moment, and of course, they can't. A door opened at this point. Allerton stares in, and he flees.
"Then the movie is then about that loss and the rest of the movie is about that loss and the rest of Burroughs' life. It's also very Burroughs, which we have to have in the movie. It would have been a failure if we hadn't."
You can now judge for yourself about Queer's ending as it has now arrived in UK cinemas ahead of a streaming release on Mubi next year.
