Anthony Joshua saw his hopes of landing a huge showdown with Tyson Fury suffer a huge setback after he was knocked out by Daniel Dubois.

In a real turn-up for the books, Dubois produced the performance of his career to leave those inside Wembley shell-shocked. He has now put himself in prime position for a shot at either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk as a result of this fifth round knockout.

Dubois made his way to the ring first, but despite being made to wait for Joshua’s arrival, the London-born fighter was in no way fazed when the first bell sounded. The 27-year-old started on the front foot and sent Joshua flying to the canvas in the opening round.

Joshua managed to pull himself up and was eventually saved by the bell. But, in truth, he never recovered and found himself in a battle to survive.

After being caught in round two, Joshua found himself back on the canvas the next round, but once again managed to beat the count. However, round four resulted in the former Team GB fighter taking more shots to the head and body, although he did finally manage to land shots of his own.

But, by this point, Joshua was in deep, deep water, and midway through the round, Dubois landed a huge left to the chin that sent the Watford fighter to the canvas. Unlike before, Joshua never managed to get up before the end of the 10 count.

Speaking in the ring in the immediate aftermath, Dubois said: "I've only got a few words to say: Are you not entertained?!

"It's been a long journey, I'm grateful to be in this position. I'm a gladiator, I'm a warrior to the bitter end. I want to reach the top level of this game and reach my full potential.

"I've been on a rollercoaster ride. This is my time, this is my redemption story, and I'm not going to stop until I reach my full potential."

While his promoter Frank Warren remarked: "It takes two people to make a fight like they did. A great champion and AJ. AJ showed his heart util the end. I always felt he [Dubois] would do it and he did it.

"It's not a turnaround, it was there, he was a young man. Everybody here has seen a champion's performance tonight. Showed his courage, his skills, and his performance. Whatever happens, we'll keep him busy."
